Uplands, Nanaimo

Uplands is one of the more established areas in the north end of Nanaimo. This residential area can be found just off of Highway 1 between North Nanaimo and the northern borders of the Departure Bay area. Properties in Uplands often perch on rocky hillsides, or they occupy the cool dark spaces at the bottoms of small ravines. It's an exciting area to explore Nanaimo homes for sale. The uneven topography makes for some large lot sizes, and many of the homes in Uplands are Nanaimo's best view homes, overlooking Long Lake, and Mount Benson.

The area was first developed back in the 70s and then again in the 90s, giving Uplands real estate a good mixture of different home types. The area's mixed landscape of hills and valleys offers a range of views and lot sizes depending on where you're located. Home prices are moderate and because of the unique landscape, potential homeowners could find some larger properties for sale. The area is maturing nicely, having already protected the local Linley Valley nature area, and with popular ocean parks just an eight minute drive away. Although this neighborhood does not overlook the ocean, there are still some great water views along Long Lake. Not only does the lake offer some beautiful views but it is a popular area for residents in the summertime, providing a sandy beach and swimming areas suitable for all ages.

Lakefront homes for sale demand a premium, but are well worth the price for the peaceful views. These sought after addresses often include private lake access, another added perk in the warm summer months. Long Lake Heights Estates is a popular upscale subdivision in Uplands with houses backing onto the lake or heavily treed lots. There are also a number of condo buildings in the area, including of developments on the Long Lake, on Ross Rd, and off of Rutherford Rd.

Berwick on the Lake

Berwick on the Lake is an active 50+ retirement community located right on the eastern banks of Long Lake. The complex offers fully licensed care, a peaceful waterfront setting, and lots of great amenities. Offering 1 to 2 bedroom suites ranging in square footage from 600 to 782 square feet, homebuyers can choose between three different floor plans.  Some of the shared amenities include a private dock, a hobby kitchen, coffee bistros, and a billiards room.

Uplands Amenities

Several amenities surround this area or are just a short distance away including Nanaimo North Town Centre Mall which includes a Canadian Tire, Galaxy Cinema, London Drugs, Fairway Market, Sears and various other banks and services. Country Club Mall is also a short distance away.

Long Lake is the star attraction of this wonderfully scenic neighborhood, which is a popular spot for watersports, fishing and kayaking.

Linley Valley, a hidden gem of several hundred unspoiled acres, is tucked between Rock City Road on the south, Burma Road on the north, Hammond Bay Road on the east, and Rutherford Road on the west – yet once you hike into the valley, you will feel like you could be far away from the city. The area was slated for residential development but was saved in 2003 by the people and government of the City, and by a campaign spearheaded by the Nanaimo Area Land Trust.
